Carey Team Among Winners Of Jhu Idea Lab Challenge

Carey Assistant Professor Alexandra Klaren and workers member April Foiles combined efforts on an entry titled “Bridging Divides by way of Personal Storytelling.” They will use their awarded funds to work with the Baltimore-primarily based Stoop Storytelling Series and the national nonprofit StoryCorps to develop a storytelling workshop, recording session, and performance at Johns Hopkins University. A Carey Business School staff was one of nine winners within the 2018 JHU Idea Lab problem. Instructional Teaching Specialist April Foiles wrote the proposal titled “Bridging Divides through Personal Storytelling.” Carey Assistant Professor Alexandra Klaren is becoming a member of Foiles to convey this project to fruition. They will use their awarded funds to develop a storytelling workshop, work with the nationwide nonprofit StoryCorps to record interviews, and work with the Baltimo re-based Stoop Storytelling to deliver a storytelling efficiency to the Senator Theatre in October 2018. As Foiles wrote in her proposal to Idea Lab, “When we share and actually pay attention to each other’s stories, we keep in mind how vast a universe each individual is â€" we're each so much greater than our ideologies, political beliefs, and even our cultures… Personal stories really can bridge divides.” Foiles specializes in the science of studying, curriculum design, performance improvement, comedy improv, and bringing individuals together to creatively collaborate. She taught improv and storytelling at Everyman Theatre. Klaren specializes within the study of media, culture, communication ethics, and human emotion, with concentrations in cultural research and human values. Launched in 2015, the Idea Lab is the college’s hub for crowdsourcing initiatives. The theme for this yr’s challenge was “Ideas Bridging Divides.” Students, faculty, and workers of the college submitted a total of 32 concepts. Once they have been posted to the Idea Lab web site, greater than 2,200 members of the JHU community submitted four,seven-hundred votes online. The nine winners will receive grants to additional develop their ideas. Johns Hopkins University President Ronald J.
